If you’re saying “Why Can’t I Lose Weight?”…then let’s address the top Weight Loss Mistakes Women over 35 are making:
1. Chronic dieting: prolonged under eating, consuming diet foods & yo yo weight loss/weight gain are all stressors to the body. We need to learn how to maximize your metabolism – and that includes eating to nourish and support your physiology (and your physique!)
2. You’re eating the wrong macros: Most women under eat protein (and over consume carbs/fats) protein is critical for maintaining a healthy metabolism & muscle mass. Imbalanced macros will still halt fat loss, even if you’re in a calorie deficit.
3. You’re still sedentary: It is fantastic if you exercise, but what are you doing the rest of the day? If you are mostly sitting or inactive, chances are this is could be hindering your progress. Your overall daily activity (general movement & steps) all increase your resting metabolic rate – which is key to burning fat & losing weight!
4. You’re lacking muscle: Muscle mass is QUEEN when it comes to a healthy metabolism & body composition. It is not something to be afraid of – muscle is what gives us that “toned, tight” look we want (trust me, you won’t look bulky!) We want to lose FAT, not muscle. Not enough strength training, a sedentary lifestyle & a poor diet can be factors here.
5. You’re not tracking data: What gets measured gets managed. When you aren’t tracking your workouts, and or food, you’re more likely to not lose consistency, PLUS, from an objective standpoint, we don’t know what to change in order to see progress. We need clear goals, action steps & accountability tools.
6. You fall off on the weekends: Do you meal prep & exercise Mon-Fri, only to go out all weekend? What you do Sat & Sun matters; sabotaging your progress on weekends leaves you back to square one on Monday.
7. Alcohol: As much as we would like to believe there are health benefits, the truth is…alcohol is pretty bad for your health đ It taxes our liver & gut, tells our body to store fat, decreases our metabolism, and when it can seem like a good way to ârelieve stressâ it’s doing the opposite. Your glass of wine or weekends out could be exactly why you’re not losing fat.
8. Little sabotages: This could be extra snacks & bites during the day, picking at your kid’s food, having seconds, not measuring portions, missing your workouts 3 days in a row, not hitting your step goalâŚthese âlittleâ actions can be adding in hundreds of calories each day & hindering progress.
