Apple Cider Vinegar: Drink Up for Optimal Health!

What is it & Why is it so beneficial?

Apple Cider Vinegar (also known as ACV) is a type of vinegar.

It is high in two important qualities:  Acetic Acid & Pectin

Acetic Acid is very high in anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It has been shown to help kill off bad bacteria & germs, as well as be a natural disinfectant & preservative.

Pectin is insoluble fiber found in apples. Fiber provides fullness, satiety & promotes regularity & proper digestion.

With these qualities, Apple Cider Vinegar has been shown to aid in:

  • Improves Gut Health
  • Proper Digestion
  • Promotes optimal PH balance in body
  • Decreased chance of sickness
  • Increased insulin sensitivity
  • Lowers blood sugar levels
  • Can aid in weight loss efforts
  • Decreased blood pressure &  cholesterol

  • Improved hair & skin quality

The Acetic Acid naturally will fight off the bad bacteria and/or germs that might be in our bodies or that we contract. Here are more alternative uses for ACV (there are lots more than what I listed as well!):

  • Fights off sore throats, stuffy noses, or allergies
  • Mix with water as a scalp rinse and face toner
  • Combine with water & oils for a natural all purpose cleaner
  • Create salad dressings or marinades

It is important to use Organic Unfiltered ACV that has the “mother”, as it contains the healthy enzymes & bacteria for the above benefits.

How should I take it? ACV shouldn’t be ingested directly by itself. It is pretty harsh (remember, it’s vinegar!) so if drinking, it is best to combine with water (warm or cold). It has a very “distinct” taste and flavor…not gonna lie, it is not always the most pleasant thing to drink! It is important to start with small amounts and work up to more doses depending on your body and preferences.

Braggs recommends 1-2 tsp as a serving taken up to 3 times daily. Personally, I recommend a larger dose is 1-2 Tbsp with anywhere from 2-8oz of water just once daily. (Again, start slow and see how you feel). A little lemon, cinnamon, honey or natural sweetener such as Stevia can be added for a better flavor.

My morning “shot” is: 2 Tbsp (cold) ACV, 4oz water + a few drops of liquid stevia. I take this every morning after a full glass of water but before breakfast! I usually follow it with more water 🙂
